The frame is a 9.5 out of 10 with very minimal wear/marks. It measures 8.5'x26.5'x31', so its compact size is far smaller than a typical travel case. An Awesome Bike Ritchey Break-Away Ascent Although the Break-Away Ascent is only offered as a frameset, the awesome team at Ritchey sent ours as a complete bike. This bike will break apart in 2 junctions and fit in a normal sized suitcase. ![]() I currently have it set up in gravel mode with 40C WTB Byway tires. This bike rides amazingly well and is a great all around bike for both the road, gravel, and cyclocross. Frame and parts are in excellent condition. Would consider trader for 56 cm gravel bike (willing to trade up or down with cash). The Ritchey offers plenty of comfort via its slim stays and fork legs, and it takes a 27.2mm seatpost to soak up more vibrations from the road. I've made it work with a shorter stem and shallow drop but it just is a touch too big. Ritchey’s Break-Away Carbon is, to all intents and purposes, a relatively racy carbon road bike, with ‘classic Ritchey geometry’ and a top-spec, lightweight build. Sadly, the guy who sold it to me measured it wrong. Ritchey says this system adds less than 100 grams to the frame. It uses two seatpost binder bolts so the seatpost serves as a coupler, and a small circular clamp on the down tube just forward of the bottom bracket. True to form, the Ritchey Break-Away Road Ti/Carbon delivers a classic titanium ride, with a resilient and springy feel under power and a distinctly smooth quality on rough roads. It’s simply too good and fun of a bike to put away. Add to all this frame’s ability to take wider tires (the cyclocross version of the frame allows for even wider tires, as you might expect), and you’ll soon realize that the Break-Away doesn’t need to be packed into its suitcase when you’re back home. ![]() It doesn’t feel, or look, like a travel bike. And therein lies the real magic behind this frame. This despite the fact that one of the frame’s two joints is right next to the bottom bracket (the other being at the top tube/seat tube joint), which you would never know based on how the bike handles. ![]() The steel frame soaks up the rough back roads I end up getting lost in when I travel, and does similarly well in the awful steep pitches I encountered in Spain and Belgium. So despite my somewhat utilitarian choice of parts when compared to today’s wonder bikes, the Ritchey Break-Away has been a joy to ride. ![]()
